  H.C.R. No. 123
 
 
 
HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, The Vietnam Veterans Memorial honors the men and
  women of the armed forces of the United States who served in the
  Vietnam War; engraved are the names of 58,267 individuals,
  including 3,416 from Texas, who gave their lives or who remain
  missing, listed in the order they were taken from us; and
         WHEREAS, The United States Congress authorized the building
  of a new underground education center across from the memorial,
  which is also known as "The Wall," to continue the process of
  remembrance, healing, and honoring those who served and died in one
  of the longest wars in the nation's history; and
         WHEREAS, A joint effort of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund
  and the National Park Service, The Education Center at The Wall will
  allow visitors to connect a face and a personal story to the names
  on The Wall; it will also include an exhibit with  images of those
  who have served in other wars, an artifacts collection showcasing
  some of the more than 150,000 items left in tribute at The Wall, and
  a timeline of the Vietnam War; and
         WHEREAS, The education center will celebrate the values of
  duty, loyalty, respect, service, honor, courage, and integrity that
  are embodied by American service members and will serve as a
  repository for stories that must be preserved and shared with
  future generations; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the 82nd Legislature of the State of Texas
  hereby honor the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund and the National
  Park Service for their collaboration on The Education Center at The
  Wall and commend them for their efforts to bring this important
  project to fruition; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for organizers of The Education Center at The Wall as an
  expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and
  Senate.
