A JOINT RESOLUTION
|
|
proposing a constitutional amendment authorizing the legislature |
|
to permit commuter rail districts to impose a property tax on |
|
property located in the district to pay debt issued or assumed by |
|
the district and to pay the maintenance and operating expenses of |
|
the district. |
|
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Article III, Texas Constitution, is amended by |
|
adding Section 48-g to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 48-g. The legislature by general law may authorize |
|
each commuter rail district to impose a property tax on property |
|
located in the district to pay debt issued or assumed by the |
|
district and to pay the maintenance and operating expenses of the |
|
district. The tax may not be imposed until approved by the voters |
|
of the district voting at an election held for that purpose. |
|
SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be |
|
submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 8, 2011. |
|
The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the |
|
proposition: "The constitutional amendment authorizing the |
|
legislature to permit commuter rail districts to impose a property |
|
tax on property located in the district to pay debt issued or |
|
assumed by the district and to pay the maintenance and operating |
|
expenses of the district." |
