R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, A 75th wedding anniversary marks a lifetime of |
|
|
mutual devotion and shared experiences, and Lyle and Colleen |
|
|
McGuffin of Kerrville celebrated this joyous milestone in their |
|
|
marriage on November 24, 2010; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Their first meeting occurred at a grocery store |
|
|
owned by Mr. McGuffin when the future Mrs. McGuffin was only 17; the |
|
|
pair courted through letters and visits before they married in 1935 |
|
|
and went on their honeymoon to Monterrey, Mexico; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The McGuffins joined the Church of Christ in 1967 |
|
|
and made a dramatic change in their lives; they were soon able to |
|
|
leave their jobs and move to Africa, where Mr. McGuffin attended the |
|
|
Southern Africa Bible College and became a missionary; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Now back in Kerrville, where they are valued members |
|
|
of Riverside Church of Christ, the couple have a host of interests |
|
|
that include supporting mission work in China and elsewhere and the |
|
|
progress of the Southern Africa Bible College; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. McGuffin have enjoyed seven and a half |
|
|
decades of abiding love and affection for one another, and they are |
|
|
among an exceptional group of men and women who can claim such a |
|
|
lasting commitment; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Lyle and Colleen McGuffin on their |
|
|
75th wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for |
|
|
continued happiness; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mr. and Mrs. McGuffin as an expression of high regard |
|
|
by the Texas House of Representatives. |
