R E S O L U T I O N
|

|
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Private First |
|
|
|
|
|
Class Benjamen Glen Chisholm suffered an immeasurable loss with the |
|
|
|
|
|
death of this valiant soldier on August 17, 2010, at the age of 24; |
|
|
|
|
|
and |
|
|
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Private Chisholm was assigned to the 1st Battalion, |
|
|
|
|
|
327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne |
|
|
|
|
|
Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky; he was mortally wounded in |
|
|
|
|
|
Kunar Province while serving his country on his first tour of duty |
|
|
|
|
|
in Afghanistan; and |
|
|
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Born in Silver Spring, Maryland, on October 3, 1985, |
|
|
|
|
|
Ben Chisholm spent his early years in Colorado and Utah before his |
|
|
|
|
|
family moved to the Fort Worth area in 1998; a graduate of Northwest |
|
|
|
|
|
High School in Justin and a participant in Junior ROTC and the Young |
|
|
|
|
|
Marines, he enlisted in the army in August 2008; and |
|
|
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Private Chisholm was deployed to Afghanistan in May |
|
|
|
|
|
2010; among the awards and decorations posthumously conferred on |
|
|
|
|
|
him were the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, and the Good Conduct |
|
|
|
|
|
Medal; and |
|
|
|
|
|
WHEREAS, This brave Texan was known for his cheerful smile |
|
|
|
|
|
and infectious good humor; he was a frequent volunteer at the Rocky |
|
|
|
|
|
Top Therapy Center in Keller, which provides equine therapy for the |
|
|
|
|
|
disabled, and a Benjamen Chisholm Memorial Fund has been created |
|
|
|
|
|
there to benefit veterans and their families; and |
|
|
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Ben Chisholm married the love of his life, U.S. Army |
|
|
|
|
|
Specialist Amber Ferguson, on March 15, 2010; and |
|
|
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt to our nation's |
|
|
|
|
|
servicemen and servicewomen, whose sacrifices are deserving of the |
|
|
|
|
|
deepest respect and gratitude; through his unwavering dedication to |
|
|
|
|
|
duty, Benjamen Chisholm embodied the highest ideals of the United |
|
|
|
|
|
States armed forces, and those who knew him will forever hold his |
|
|
|
|
|
memory close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
|
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
|
|
|
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Private First Class |
|
|
|
|
|
Benjamen Chisholm and extend sincere sympathy to his loved ones, |
|
|
|
|
|
including Amber Ferguson Chisholm, Linda Reynolds and Skip Doerr, |
|
|
|
|
|
Glenn and Lynn Chisholm, James David Breuel, Annie A. Reynolds, |
|
|
|
|
|
Fern Hiatt, Oscar and Davina Ferguson, Alyssa Breuel, Tammy Breuel, |
|
|
|
|
|
Megan Doerr, Tami Rose, Tiffany Merrill, Stacy Humphreys, Alexis |
|
|
|
|
|
Chisholm, Jay Breuel, Scott Doerr, and Tracy Humphreys; and, be it |
|
|
|
|
|
further |
|
|
|
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
|
|
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
|
|
|
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of U.S. Army |
|
|
|
|
|
