H.R. No. 110
 
 
 
R E S O L U T I O N
         
  WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
 
  meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends
 
  of Cecil Alvis Staples of Palestine, who passed away on November 16,
 
  2010, at the age of 77; and
         
         WHEREAS, Born in Anderson County on March 23, 1933, to Claude
 
  and Georgia Martin Staples, Cecil Staples worked in logging camps
 
  in East Texas when he was young and later served in the U.S. Army; he
 
  was employed by the Glass Containers Corporation for 36 years, and
 
  he was president of Local 90 of the Glass Bottle Blowers'
 
  Association for more than two decades; and
         
         WHEREAS, This hardworking Texan also ran a cattle operation
 
  and a tree service for many years, living his childhood dream of
 
  owning land and livestock; in 1984, he opened Staples Greenhouse in
 
  Palestine with his twin brother, Chester, and the pair managed the
 
  business until 2002; and
         
         WHEREAS, A man of strong faith, Mr. Staples was a longtime
 
  member of Norwood Heights Baptist Church, where he served as a
 
  Sunday school teacher and a deacon; in all of his endeavors, he
 
  enjoyed the love and support of his wife, Carol Wooten Staples, and
 
  together they welcomed into their family five children, Cecil,
 
  Brenda, Todd, Julie, and Candice, as well as numerous grandchildren
 
  and great-grandchildren; and
         
         WHEREAS, Although he is deeply missed, Cecil Staples will
 
  long be remembered with great fondness and affection by all those
 
  who were privileged to share in the richness of his life; now,
 
  therefore, be it
         
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Cecil Alvis Staples
 
  and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
 
  wife of 56 years, Carol Wooten Staples; to his children, Cecil A.
 
  Staples and his wife, Dana, Brenda Boyd, Texas Agriculture
 
  Commissioner Todd Staples and his wife, Janet, and Julie Staples;
 
  to his grandchildren, Kyle Blanton and his wife, Jennifer, Grant
 
  Staples, Scott Staples, Jordan Staples, Jason Boyd and his wife,
 
  Emily, Alexandra Naismith and her husband, Clint, Jared Staples,
 
  Elizabeth Staples, Brian Thorn and his wife, Jamie, and Jonathan
 
  Thorn and his wife, Toni; to his three great-grandchildren; to his
 
  brother, Chester Staples; to his sister, Theresa Spitchley; to his
 
  nieces and nephews; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be
 
  it further
         
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Cecil Alvis
 
  Staples.
