R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, In an outstanding display of skill and
  determination, the Lady Cougars volleyball team of Canterbury
  Episcopal School in DeSoto captured the Texas Association of
  Private and Parochial Schools Class 2A state championship on
  January 1, 2011; and
         WHEREAS, Canterbury's victory in the title match came against
  a talented team from St. Paul High School in Shiner; the four-set
  win was played at the Blossom Athletic Center in San Antonio and
  capped a splendid season in which the Lady Cougars went 21-0 in
  matches that followed the best-of-five format and amassed an
  overall game record of 108 wins against just 15 losses; and
         WHEREAS, Canterbury was sparked in the final by Katie
  Fitzgerald, who registered 16 kills, and by the combined firepower
  of Victoria Bowens, Blase Saucedo, and Mary Vaughan; on the
  defensive side, Kaitlyn Lucy had 17 digs while Skylan Vaughan and
  Ms. Bowens tallied 12 apiece; Caitlin Pierce paced the squad with 30
  assists, and Kelsey Steuben added 18; Ms. Fitzgerald, Ms. Lucy, Ms.
  Pierce, and Ms. Bowens each were recognized with all-tournament
  honors; and
         WHEREAS, In their quest to become champions, the Lady Cougars
  also received vital contributions from the other members of the
  team: Samantha Bowens, Claire Metoyer, Vallery Mitchell, Emily
  Painter, and Rachael Roberts; these talented athletes were led by
  head coach Scott Vaughan and also benefited from the guidance of
  assistant coaches Jeff Ellis and Kim Shelton; and
         WHEREAS, The success attained by the Canterbury volleyball
  players is a testament to their hard work and dedication, and they
  are a source of tremendous pride to their school and their many
  supporters; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Canterbury Episcopal School
  Lady Cougars volleyball team on winning the Texas Association of
  Private and Parochial Schools Class 2A state championship and
  extend to the players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for
  continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
