R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the heartache felt
  at the loss of U.S. Army Specialist Pedro Antonio Maldonado of
  Houston, who died in Afghanistan on October 29, 2010, at the age of
  20; and
         WHEREAS, Assigned to Company B, 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry
  Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, based
  at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Specialist Maldonado was killed in
  Kandalay when his unit came under attack from insurgent forces; he
  was serving his second tour of duty in the region; and
         WHEREAS, Pedro Maldonado enlisted in the army shortly after
  his 2007 graduation from Furr High School, where he was a member of
  the ROTC; his military commendations included the National Defense
  Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on
  Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, and the Combat
  Infantry Badge; and
         WHEREAS, A quiet, respectful, and responsible young man, Pete
  Maldonado was devoted to his family and passionate about playing
  the guitar; he generously put aside his military earnings with the
  goal of buying his parents a house and assisting his father with
  medical expenses; and
         WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have men and
  women whose love for their country inspires them to take up military
  service, yet the tragic death of this brave young soldier is a
  sobering reminder of the cost of war; Specialist Pedro Maldonado
  embodied the highest ideals of the U.S. armed forces, and time can
  never diminish the poignancy of the contributions he made and the
  sacrifice he rendered; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Specialist
  Pedro Antonio Maldonado and extend sincere sympathy to the members
  of his family: to his parents, Pedro and Maria Maldonado; to his
  brother and two sisters; and to his other relatives and friends;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Pedro
  Maldonado.
