R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Honorable Melvin Simons retired as justice of |
|
|
the peace for Precinct 4 in Parker County on December 31, 2010, |
|
|
having served with distinction for 12 years; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Judge Simons was first elected to his position in |
|
|
1998, and he was repeatedly returned to office by the voters of his |
|
|
district; as he concluded his service, he was the oldest sitting |
|
|
justice of the peace in Texas; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This patriotic American was a member of the U.S. |
|
|
Marines during World War II and saw duty in the battles for Peleliu |
|
|
and Okinawa; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Judge Simons enjoys the |
|
|
love and support of his wife, Billye, and his children, Patti |
|
|
Clinton, Sylvia Simons, and Terry Simons; Judge Simons and his wife |
|
|
are active members of Hilltop Baptist Church, having been part of |
|
|
the congregation since 1972; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The dedication and compassion demonstrated by Judge |
|
|
Simons have positively influenced the lives of numerous |
|
|
individuals, particularly the many young people who appeared before |
|
|
his court; his accomplishments have made Parker County an even |
|
|
better place to live and work, and he is greatly appreciated by the |
|
|
residents that he has served so well; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Judge Melvin Simons on his |
|
|
retirement as justice of the peace for Precinct 4 of Parker County |
|
|
and extend to him sincere appreciation for his exemplary public |
|
|
service; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Judge Simons as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
