R E S O L U T I O N
         
  WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the heartache felt
 
  at the death of U.S. Army Private First Class Cody A. Board of
 
  McKinney, who lost his life while bravely serving his country in
 
  Afghanistan on October 4, 2010; and
         
         WHEREAS, Assigned to the 3rd Platoon, Apache Company, 1st
 
  Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment based in Vilseck, Germany,
 
  Private First Class Board was mortally wounded just one week shy of
 
  his 20th birthday; and
         
         WHEREAS, Cody Board was born on October 12, 1990, in Fort
 
  Sill, Oklahoma, to Chris and Melissa Board; the son of a West Point
 
  graduate and Desert Storm veteran, he knew from childhood that he
 
  wanted to one day become a soldier; he moved with his family to
 
  McKinney in 1999 and lettered in wrestling and cross-country in
 
  high school, and after graduating in 2009, he followed in the
 
  footsteps of his father, uncle, and grandfather by enlisting in the
 
  U.S. Army; and
         
         WHEREAS, Among the numerous military awards conferred on
 
  Private Board were the Combat Infantryman Badge and the National
 
  Defense Service Medal, and he was posthumously honored with the
 
  Bronze Star and the Purple Heart; he is remembered for his endearing
 
  smile, his sense of humor, and his perseverance; and
         
         WHEREAS, Private First Class Board embodied the highest
 
  standards of the United States armed forces, and his valiant
 
  efforts and immense sacrifice are deserving of the respect and
 
  appreciation of every American; although his loss has left a
 
  tremendous void in the lives of all who knew him, they will forever
 
  treasure their memories of time spent in his company; now,
 
  therefore, be it
         
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Private
 
  First Class Cody A. Board and extend sincere sympathy to the members
 
  of his family: to his father, retired U.S. Army Captain Christopher
 
  W. Board; to his mother, Melissa Board; to his brothers, Aaron and
 
  Tyler Board; to his grandparents, Robert Board and retired U.S.
 
  Army Command Sergeant Major Albert Daley; and to his other
 
  relatives and many friends; and, be it further
         
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Private
 
  First Class Cody A. Board.
