H.R. No. 159

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, The House of Representatives of the State of Texas

is pleased to recognize the men and women who have so honorably

served in the armed forces of our great nation and joins with all

Texans in observing January 24, 2011, as Wounded Warrior Day at the

  Texas State Capitol; and

WHEREAS, The members of the U.S. Army, Navy, Marine Corps,

and Air Force and their families have made extraordinary sacrifices

in behalf of our nation, both abroad and within our own borders; and

WHEREAS, Of the approximately 253,000 members of the United

States military who are currently deployed around the world, nearly

19,500 are from Texas, and of the more than 42,000 who have been

wounded in Operations Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom, and New Dawn

since 2001, over 3,600 have been from Texas; and

WHEREAS, We are privileged to honor today the wounded

warriors who have returned from these conflicts, including Sergeant

Juan Carrion, Sergeant Chris Goebel, Staff Sergeant Richard Groff,

Staff Sergeant Frank Lamar, Private First Class Kevin Macari, and

  Major John J. Ploch; and

WHEREAS, These veterans have bravely and selflessly served in

defense of our nation and its democratic ideals; with silent

dedication and unmatched grit, they have ensured our safety and

security, and it is indeed fitting that their fellow citizens pay

tribute to their courageous efforts; and

WHEREAS, Although these veterans come from many different

communities and backgrounds, what divides them is much less than

what unites them--a deep and abiding love of their country; it was

for America and all Americans that they left their home and their

family and friends and put their lives at risk to guarantee the

continuation of those freedoms etched into the Declaration of

Independence and enshrined in our Constitution; and

WHEREAS, In protecting these freedoms, the members of our

military have demonstrated exemplary bravery, professionalism, and

  commitment to duty, and they are truly deserving of special praise;

  now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas

Legislature hereby honor the wounded warriors of our nation for

their sacrifice, dedication, and patriotism and extend to these

valiant men and women the profound gratitude of all Texans.
