R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Bikers from across Texas are gathering in Austin on
  January 24, 2011, for their Legislative Day at the State Capitol;
  and
         WHEREAS, Members of statewide groups such as the Texas
  Motorcycle Rights Association, the US Defenders/Coalition of
  Independent Riders, the Texas Confederation of Clubs and
  Independents, and the Texas Abate Confederation all participate in
  this notable event; and
         WHEREAS, The thriving membership of these organizations
  demonstrates the large number of Texas citizens who are avid
  bikers; hundreds of thousands of motorcycles are registered in the
  Lone Star State, and this biennial legislative rally draws
  thousands of motorcyclists to Austin; the advocacy of dedicated
  riders has contributed to numerous positive developments through
  the years, including the "Share the Road" initiative, and they have
  also backed other programs that promote the safety of Texans on two
  wheels, including the "Look Twice for Motorcycles" campaign
  sponsored by the Texas Transportation Institute; and
         WHEREAS, The 2011 gathering of motorcycle riders at the State
  Capitol provides a fitting opportunity to remember Sputnik, the
  founder and former chair of the Texas Motorcycle Rights
  Association, the group that arranged the first Legislative Day for
  bikers in 1995; after many years of doing his utmost to protect the
  rights of his fellow riders, this respected biker passed away on
  June 24, 2010, but his legacy of integrity and determination will
  continue to inspire others for many years to come; and
         WHEREAS, Motorcycle enthusiasts embody many of the qualities
  that are central to the Texas identity, including a spirit of
  adventure, a passion for freedom, a deep love of the outdoors, and a
  willingness to lend a helping hand to those in need; they are
  equally dedicated to taking an active role in our representative
  form of government and voicing their support for the rights
  outlined in our state and national constitutions; through their
  attention to the legislative process, these concerned citizens are
  addressing issues of importance to motorcyclists across the Lone
  Star State, and the rumble of their machines in the streets of
  downtown Austin on January 24 is the sound of democracy in action;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby welcome all those motorcyclists participating
  in Legislative Day at the State Capitol and extend to them sincere
  best wishes for an enjoyable and productive visit.
