R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Angleton Area Emergency Medical Corps |
|
celebrated 30 years of service to the citizens of Brazoria County in |
|
2010; and |
|
WHEREAS, Founded as a nonprofit corporation in 1980 by a |
|
group of committed volunteers, Angleton Area Emergency Medical |
|
Corps was created out of a critical need for first responder |
|
services in the local community; initially using a borrowed |
|
ambulance, the organization quickly grew and modernized, providing |
|
advanced life support care beginning in 1984 and achieving mobile |
|
intensive care status the following year; currently, AAEMC utilizes |
|
four ambulances, two command vehicles, and a special operations |
|
trailer, as well as both paid and volunteer staff; the service |
|
region encompasses Angleton and about 400 square miles of Brazoria |
|
County, and AAEMC staff responded to more than 3,200 calls in 2010; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Along with emergency aid, the organization also |
|
provides disaster assistance, running drills with other agencies |
|
throughout southeastern Texas to ensure preparedness in the event |
|
of a large-scale catastrophe; in addition, AAEMC trains community |
|
members in injury prevention, first aid, and CPR, and it works with |
|
the Angleton Independent School District to teach students |
|
lifesaving skills and to educate them on the dangers of drunk |
|
driving; and |
|
WHEREAS, This outstanding organization received the EMS |
|
Volunteer Provider Award at the 2002 Texas EMS Conference; |
|
moreover, director Lucille Maes took home the Administrator Award |
|
at the 2004 meeting, while AAEMC was recognized with the Public |
|
Information/Injury Prevention Award; and |
|
WHEREAS, Corps members and their families also support the |
|
community through the actions of the Sunshine Committee, which |
|
donates food and other necessities to the elderly and |
|
disadvantaged; and |
|
WHEREAS, AAEMC has demonstrated an enduring dedication to |
|
providing urgent lifesaving care to those in need, and the citizens |
|
of Angleton and the surrounding area owe these brave first |
|
responders an enormous debt of gratitude for their tireless efforts |
|
over the past three decades; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor the Angleton Area Emergency Medical Corps |
|
on its 30th anniversary and extend to its staff and volunteers |
|
sincere best wishes for continued success with their important |
|
work; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the Angleton Area Emergency Medical Corps as an |
|
expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
