R E S O L U T I O N
         
  WHEREAS, His Eminence, Daniel Cardinal DiNardo, Archbishop
 
  of Galveston-Houston, delivered the opening invocation for the 82nd
 
  Texas Legislature on January 11, 2011; and
         
         WHEREAS, A native of Steubenville, Ohio, Cardinal DiNardo has
 
  served the Diocese of Galveston-Houston since 2004, when he became
 
  coadjutor bishop; he was elevated to archbishop two years later and
 
  became cardinal on November 24, 2007; and
         
         WHEREAS, Cardinal DiNardo has demonstrated extraordinary
 
  abilities in vital roles at the local, national, and international
 
  levels; ordained in 1977, he served as assistant chancellor of the
 
  Diocese of Pittsburgh and part-time professor at St. Paul Seminary
 
  before moving to Rome, where he joined the Vatican Congregation for
 
  Bishops and served as director of the Villa Stritch; returning to
 
  Pennsylvania, he became assistant secretary for education for the
 
  Pittsburgh diocese and served as coadministrator of Madonna del
 
  Castello Church; in 1994, he founded Saints John and Paul Parish in
 
  Franklin Park-Marshall Township, Pennsylvania, and he served as its
 
  pastor until he was appointed coadjutor bishop and then bishop of
 
  the Diocese of Sioux City in 1997; and
         
         WHEREAS, A man of wisdom and devotion, Cardinal DiNardo gives
 
  generously of his time and talents to a number of organizations; he
 
  is a member of the Ad Hoc Committee to Oversee the Use of the
 
  Catechism for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and
 
  an advisor to the National Association of Pastoral Musicians for
 
  the USCCB; moreover, he serves on the board of directors of the
 
  Catholic University of America and the National Catholic
 
  Partnership on Disability, among other responsibilities; and
         
         WHEREAS, Daniel Cardinal DiNardo illuminates the lives of
 
  countless Texans through his spiritual leadership, and his message
 
  to the legislature of peace, goodwill, and dedication is a source of
 
  inspiration for which all may be grateful; now, therefore, be it
         
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 
  Legislature hereby honor His Eminence, Daniel Cardinal DiNardo,
 
  Archbishop of Galveston-Houston, and extend to him sincere best
 
  wishes for the future; and, be it further
         
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 
  prepared for Cardinal DiNardo as an expression of high regard by the
 
  Texas House of Representatives.
