R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Members of the Richland College community are
  visiting the State Capitol on February 2, 2011, and this occasion
  provides a fitting opportunity to honor this notable institution;
  and
         WHEREAS, Part of the Dallas County Community College
  District, Richland College was founded in 1972, and since its
  establishment, the institution has focused on teaching, learning,
  and community-building; and
         WHEREAS, Richland College offers courses that can be applied
  to the first two years of a baccalaureate degree, one-year or
  two-year certificates in a number of career fields, and training in
  the latest technology for students who want to advance further in
  their careers; serving nearly 15,000 college credit students and
  about 5,000 continuing education students, the school is
  internationally and ethnically diverse, with more than 90 first
  languages spoken among its population; and
         WHEREAS, Providing high-quality instruction, Richland
  College earned the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award from the
  White House and the U.S. Department of Commerce in 2005, becoming
  the first community college to receive this prestigious honor; and
         WHEREAS, Richland College is committed to helping its
  students become skilled leaders in tomorrow's workforce, and its
  efforts are contributing to the educational and economic
  development of our state; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize February 2, 2011, as Richland College
  Day at the State Capitol and extend to all those associated with
  this outstanding institution best wishes for continued success;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Richland College as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
