R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Honorable Georgia Dempster, judge of the 308th
  Judicial District of Texas, retired on December 31, 2010, after 16
  years of exemplary service in behalf of her fellow citizens; and
         WHEREAS, The former Georgia Ann McGinn was born to Colonel
  Floy W. McGinn and Ardella McGinn on April 12, 1937, in Salt Lake
  City, Utah; she spent her formative years traveling the world in the
  company of her parents, as a result of her father's military career;
  she graduated from high school in the Panama Canal Zone and went on
  to receive her bachelor's degree from the University of Utah; and
         WHEREAS, She married Anthony G. Dempster in 1961, and the
  couple eventually settled in Houston, where Mrs. Dempster decided
  to pursue a law degree; after graduating in 1983, she started a
  private family-law practice, and in 1994 she was elected judge of
  the 308th Judicial District; approving of her dedicated work on the
  bench, voters retained her in that post in three subsequent
  elections; and
         WHEREAS, Judge Dempster took an active role in her community
  and was long involved with the charitable works of the Junior
  League, becoming a charter member of the organization's North
  Harris chapter; after the passing of Mr. Dempster in 2003, Judge
  Dempster joined the Knights Hospitallers of the Sovereign Order of
  Saint John of Jerusalem, a charitable organization in which she has
  held several positions; her family includes her son, Chris
  Dempster, and his wife, Cindy, her daughter, Cindy Renaudo, and her
  husband, Chris, and five grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Georgia Dempster's tenure as a jurist has been
  characterized by diligence and integrity, and it is indeed fitting
  to join with the residents of Harris County in honoring her for her
  outstanding public service; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Honorable Georgia Dempster on
  the occasion of her retirement as judge of the 308th Judicial
  District of Texas and extend to her sincere best wishes for an
  enjoyable retirement; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Judge Dempster as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
