R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Members of the First Presbyterian Church of Clifton |
|
are celebrating the 150th anniversary of their church's founding in |
|
2011; and |
|
WHEREAS, The oldest continuously operated church in Bosque |
|
County, First Presbyterian was established on January 20, 1861, as |
|
North Bosque Presbyterian Church; the congregation originally met |
|
for services about two miles northeast of present-day Clifton; a |
|
permanent location was eventually found on the corner of Avenue G |
|
and 9th Street, and the name was changed to First Presbyterian |
|
Church of Clifton in 1906; and |
|
WHEREAS, The church marked its centennial in 1961 with the |
|
dedication of a new building, and in 2010, it doubled in size with |
|
the expansion of the sanctuary and the addition of a new fellowship |
|
hall and other facilities; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through the years, the congregation has benefited |
|
from the leadership of a number of notable pastors, including the |
|
Reverend Clint Schofield, who became pastor in 2004 and today |
|
ministers to the church's 120 members; and |
|
WHEREAS, The First Presbyterian Church of Clifton has long |
|
served as a source of inspiration and guidance to those who worship |
|
there, and its continued existence is a tribute to the unwavering |
|
commitment of its members and clergy, both past and present; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the 150th anniversary of the First |
|
Presbyterian Church of Clifton and extend to the congregation |
|
sincere best wishes for many more years of shared prayer and |
|
fellowship. |
