R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The marching band of Hendrickson High School in |
|
|
Pflugerville was named the 2010-2011 Grand Master Champion at the |
|
|
Fiesta Bowl Band Championship, which was held in Glendale, Arizona, |
|
|
in December 2010; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, One of the most prestigious high school marching |
|
|
band competitions in the country, the Fiesta Bowl invites the |
|
|
nation's most highly decorated bands to perform their best |
|
|
10-minute field presentations in front of a panel of judges; the |
|
|
Hawk Band's performance of "Illuminatus" took first place in the |
|
|
categories of music performance, general effect, visual |
|
|
performance, and percussion, and the band won the coveted Grand |
|
|
Master trophy; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Hendrickson High group won a second competition |
|
|
at the Fiesta Bowl when it was named Grand Champion of the Fort |
|
|
McDowell Fiesta Bowl Parade, a time-honored tradition sponsored by |
|
|
the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation and the only major bowl parade in |
|
|
which bands are judged; the Hawks earned top marks in music |
|
|
performance and general effect at the downtown Phoenix event; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In the eight years since Hendrickson High School |
|
|
opened, the Hawk Marching Band has won the U.S. Scholastic Band |
|
|
Association State Marching Band Championship and finished in the |
|
|
top five at three annual University Interscholastic League 4A |
|
|
Marching Band Contests; the band has also been a finalist twice at |
|
|
Bands of America competitions, and it has marched in the |
|
|
ABC/Boscov's Thanksgiving Day Parade in Philadelphia and the Disney |
|
|
Magic Music Days Parade in Orlando, Florida; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Under the leadership of founding band director Garth |
|
|
Gundersen and with the enthusiastic support of the community, the |
|
|
Hawk Band has distinguished itself as one of the premier high school |
|
|
marching bands in the Lone Star State, and its talented young |
|
|
musicians may indeed take great pride in their most recent |
|
|
achievement; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the Hendrickson High School |
|
|
Marching Band on being named the 2010-2011 Grand Master Champion at |
|
|
the Fiesta Bowl Band Championship and extend to the band's members |
|
|
and staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it |
|
|
further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the Hendrickson High School Marching Band as an |
|
|
expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
