WHEREAS, The year 2011 marks the 100th anniversary of the
founding of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in San Antonio; and
WHEREAS, Organized by the Reverend William Lampkin on the
banks of Menger Creek, the congregation was known as Israelite
  Baptist Church before it adopted its present name in the 1920s;
since its inception, New Hope has also benefited from the dedicated
efforts of a number of other ministers, including the Reverends
Lindsay Johnson, Claude White, Thomas Harry Robinson, Houston
Duncan, S. L. Jackson, and Joshua Joubert, who leads the
  congregation today; and

the continued growth of the membership necessitated several moves
to larger venues, culminating with the 1957 dedication of the
current church edifice at 1909 Martin Luther King Drive; over the
past half-century, remodeling has provided sufficient space for a
variety of commendable programs that focus on education, missions,
music, youth, and seniors, while additional ministries provide
opportunities for worship and fellowship for individuals in nursing
  homes and in prisons; and
WHEREAS, Countless area residents have looked to New Hope
Missionary Baptist Church for inspiration and guidance through the
years, and it is a pleasure to join in honoring the church at this
special time in its rich history; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
Legislature hereby commemorate the centennial of New Hope
Missionary Baptist Church and extend to its members sincere best
wishes for the future; and, be it further
