R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The congregants of Greater Corinth Baptist Church in
  San Antonio honored their pastor, Dr. Carl Johnson, during the week
  of October 4 through 11, 2009, with the theme "Celebrating the
  Retirement of God's Under-Shepherd--a Prophet, a Priest, and a
  Pastor/Teacher"; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson was born in Kansas City, Missouri, and
  grew up in Kansas City, Kansas; he is the son of Eddie Mae Johnson
  and Dr. A. L. Johnson, Sr., under whose leadership he was licensed
  and ordained in the New Light Baptist Church in Bonner Springs,
  Kansas; and
         WHEREAS, A highly educated religious leader, he earned a
  bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, a
  master's degree from Central Baptist Theological Seminary in
  Kansas, and a doctor of ministry degree from St. Paul School of
  Theology in Missouri; over the course of his pastoral career, he led
  congregations in Kansas, Missouri, and Alaska before beginning his
  work at Greater Corinth Baptist Church; and
         WHEREAS, In guiding the San Antonio church for 18 years,
  Dr. Johnson uplifted the hearts and spirits of many people who
  sought his wisdom and counsel; he worked diligently to assure the
  continued vitality of his congregation and the surrounding
  community; moreover, he led seminars and other events throughout
  the nation, and he conducted the first revival at the United States
  Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado; and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed clergyman has been an instructor at
  American International Bible College and Seminary in San Antonio
  and has served the students of Wayland University and St. Paul
  School of Theology as an adjunct professor; in addition, he is a
  former president of the Baptist Ministers Union of San Antonio and
  Vicinity; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson derives great inspiration and support
  from his wife, Helen, their daughters, Arla Janeen and Daphnee
  Elaine, and their grandson, Sebastian Zane; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure at Greater Corinth Baptist
  Church, Dr. Johnson contributed immeasurably to the life of that
  congregation and worked tirelessly to advance its mission, and the
  positive results of his work will continue to benefit the church
  long into the future; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Dr. Carl Johnson for his service to
  Greater Corinth Baptist Church and extend to him sincere best
  wishes for a fulfilling retirement; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dr. Johnson as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
