H.R. No. 345
 
 
 
R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The death of attorney and civic leader Albert W.
  McKnight of San Antonio on October 14, 2009, at the age of 68,
  profoundly saddened his family, friends, and colleagues; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Belmont on February 19, 1941, Mr. McKnight
  graduated from Ball High School in Seguin and attended St. Philip's
  College; after serving his country in the United States Army, he
  completed his bachelor's degree in history at St. Mary's
  University; he briefly taught at Roosevelt High School before
  becoming the first African American administrator in San Antonio's
  municipal government, and he later served as a director of planning
  in the federal Model Cities Program in both San Antonio and New
  Orleans; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. McKnight went on to graduate from the Thurgood
  Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University and to practice
  with Clarence Williams and Johnny Gabriel; a solo practitioner for
  several years as well, he also served as a San Antonio municipal
  judge in the early 1980s and as justice of the peace for Precinct 4
  from 1996 through 2006; more recently, he was a partner in the firm
  of McKnight & Bravenec; and
         WHEREAS, During the course of his legal career, Mr. McKnight
  served as a mentor to many young attorneys and frequently performed
  pro bono work for people in need; he demonstrated a deep commitment
  to the Eastside community and served in leadership roles for a
  number of local organizations, including the United Way of San
  Antonio, the alumni board of St. Mary's University, the San Antonio
  chapter of the NAACP, the Alamo YMCA, the Comanche District of the
  Boy Scouts of America, Catholic Family and Children Services, and
  Mission Trails Rotary, which he helped found; and
         WHEREAS, Albert McKnight worked diligently in behalf of his
  fellow citizens and was a stalwart champion of the causes in which
  he believed; he will forever be fondly remembered by all those who
  were privileged to share in the richness of his life; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Albert W. McKnight
  and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
  son, Christopher McKnight; to his daughter, Rebecca McKnight; to
  his former wife, Yulanee McKnight; and to his other relatives and
  friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Albert
  McKnight.
