R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories
  of Beverly Ann Johnson Dudley of San Antonio, who died on November
  5, 2010, at the age of 73; and
         WHEREAS, Beverly Ann Johnson was born in San Antonio on
  October 1, 1937, to Ernest and Armenta Johnson; a confident and
  energetic child, she learned much from her mother, her Aunt Cara,
  and her grandmother; she learned to play the piano at the age of
  seven, performing often for family and friends; she was a graduate
  of Phillis Wheatley High School, where she was named homecoming
  queen for the 1954-1955 school year; and
         WHEREAS, After earning her bachelor's degree in psychology
  from Fisk University in Tennessee in 1959, Ms. Johnson returned to
  San Antonio and took a job as a receptionist at Riley Middle School;
  she went on to become the first white-collar African American
  employee at Southwestern Bell, and she later worked for a time at
  Columbia Records in New York; and
         WHEREAS, In 1964, she returned again to San Antonio to marry
  Calvin Dudley, forging a fulfilling relationship that endured until
  her death; together they were blessed with three children, Trena
  Robinson, E. Warren Dudley, and Lura Dudley, as well as two
  grandchildren, Bria and James; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Dudley was deeply committed to her community,
  serving as cofounder of the Black Pearls Literary Society and as
  president of the Van Courtlandt Auxiliary and the Gold and Silver
  Believers Investment Club; she was a member of the boards of the
  YWCA and the San Antonio River Walk, and she was also active with
  the League of Women Voters, the Ecumenical Center for Religion and
  Health, and the Alpha Tau Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha
  Sorority; and
         WHEREAS, A woman of strong religious conviction, Mrs. Dudley
  was a lifelong member of Mount Zion First Baptist Church in San
  Antonio, and she shared her faith with others as a discussion leader
  with Bible Study Fellowship International; and
         WHEREAS, Beverly Ann Dudley lived a rich and purposeful life
  dedicated to her family, her faith, and her community, and her
  record of compassion and devotion will continue to inspire all
  those who knew and loved her; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Beverly Ann Johnson
  Dudley and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family:
  to her husband, Calvin Dudley; to her children, Trena Robinson and
  her husband, James, E. Warren Dudley, and Lura Dudley; to her
  grandchildren, Bria Monet Robinson and James Cody Robinson; to her
  cousins, Olivia Banks, Nettie Bellinger, Eleanor Cook, Barbara
  Hodges, Exetta Mitchell, and Mary Louise Alston Williams; to her
  nephews, Ward White III and Kenneth E. Nelson; and to her other
  relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Beverly
  Dudley.
