R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Members of Texas SkillsUSA, an organization for
  students engaged in trade and industrial education, are visiting
  the State Capitol on February 14, 2011; and
         WHEREAS, With roots in Texas dating back to 1948, Texas
  SkillsUSA currently serves nearly 15,500 student and professional
  members through more than 1,000 chapters in public, trade, and
  technical schools; a collaborative effort of educators,
  representatives of the private sector, and government, the
  organization integrates classroom and workplace training in order
  to provide a sound foundation for future success; and
         WHEREAS, Texas SkillsUSA seeks to develop in students
  leadership and interpersonal skills, problem-solving and critical
  thinking abilities, and solid work habits; the program further
  strives to foster in young people a sense of civic responsibility
  and to increase their understanding of government and the
  legislative process; and
         WHEREAS, Weslaco High School students taking part in the
  Texas SkillsUSA 2011 Legislative Day activities include freshmen
  Marisol Cardona, Carissa Villarreal, and Lydia Ybarra and juniors
  Samantha Paz, Monique Perez, and Amada Valdez; the students are
  accompanied by their advisor, Joseph Calvillo, and their counselor,
  Julissa Sandoval; and
         WHEREAS, Texas SkillsUSA is playing a significant role in
  developing the full range of knowledge and abilities needed by
  young Texans to become productive, engaged citizens, and it is a
  pleasure to recognize the members of the group present on this day
  for their dedication and interest; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby commend the students and advisors from Weslaco
  High School for participating in Texas SkillsUSA Day at the State
  Capitol and extend to them sincere best wishes for a meaningful and
  memorable visit to Austin.
