R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Residents of Arlington lost a cherished friend and |
|
an admired educator with the death of June James III on March 17, |
|
2010, at the age of 75; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of Shreveport, Louisiana, June James was |
|
born on December 27, 1934, and he was one of nine children of June |
|
James II and Ella James; after attending high school, he answered |
|
his nation's call to duty, and he served as a paratrooper in the |
|
United States Army and later joined the U.S. Air Force; and |
|
WHEREAS, He went on to earn a bachelor's degree in biology and |
|
a master's degree in education administration from Southern |
|
University in Baton Rouge, as well as an education specialist |
|
degree from the University of Miami and a doctoral degree in |
|
education administration from the University of Pittsburgh; during |
|
his postgraduate studies, he met the former Annie King, and the |
|
couple were married in 1980; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dr. James worked as an administrator at Southern |
|
University before retiring and moving to Arlington in 1989; shortly |
|
thereafter, he became a special assistant at The University of |
|
Texas at Arlington and served as a professor and a mentor to future |
|
principals and superintendents while actively recruiting students |
|
to the university; and |
|
WHEREAS, Also a dedicated civic leader, Dr. James helped |
|
organize the Arlington chapters of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity and |
|
the NAACP; through the years, he served as president and vice |
|
president of the local NAACP group, and he regularly contributed to |
|
fund-raising efforts at the annual NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet; Dr. |
|
James was further engaged in Mount Olive Baptist Church, and he was |
|
instrumental in establishing Metro Christian Academy, a private |
|
school affiliated with the church; and |
|
WHEREAS, A caring and generous man, June James touched the |
|
lives of countless individuals, and he leaves behind a legacy of |
|
achievement that will long be admired by all those who were |
|
privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of June James III and |
|
extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, |
|
Annie James; to his sons, Kenneth James, Michael James, and Kevin G. |
|
James; to his daughters, Jennifer James, Shondra James, Kelly |
|
Causey and her husband, Anthony, and Gina King Jones and her |
|
husband, Alton; to his sisters, Lucille Robinson, Eloise Black and |
|
her husband, the Reverend Robert Black, Alyce McLemore, and Carolyn |
|
Canaday; to his grandsons, Anthony Causey, Nicholas Causey, Ramon |
|
James, Jason James, June James V, Brice Jackson-James, and Michael |
|
S. James, Jr.; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of June James |
|
