R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Paris High School students have celebrated the |
|
chartering of the Benjamin Clark Society of the Children of the |
|
American Revolution with a ceremony that included the installation |
|
of chapter officers; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Children of the American Revolution was founded |
|
on April 5, 1895, by Harriet Lothrop, an author and member of the |
|
Daughters of the American Revolution; established to promote |
|
patriotic values and a love of country among America's youth, |
|
C.A.R. is recognized today as the oldest and largest patriotic |
|
organization for young people in the nation; membership is open to |
|
anyone under the age of 21 who is a lineal descendent of an |
|
individual who rendered material aid to the cause of American |
|
independence; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Paris chapter of the organization was named in |
|
honor of Revolutionary War veteran Benjamin Clark, a North Carolina |
|
native who was born in 1758; after fighting in the war, Mr. Clark |
|
lived in Tennessee and in the Arkansas Territory before moving to |
|
what is now Red River County; he ultimately settled in Clarksville |
|
and resided there until his death in 1838; and |
|
WHEREAS, Those elected to lead the Benjamin Clark Society as |
|
its first officers are Will Domengeaux, president, Trey Kraft, vice |
|
president, Baelye Grissom, recording secretary, and Jack Kraft, |
|
chaplain; history teachers Cheryl Brown and Terry Davis have |
|
provided generous support and guidance as the group's sponsors; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Benjamin Clark Society of the Children of the |
|
American Revolution is dedicated to remembering and upholding the |
|
founding ideals of our nation, and it is indeed worthy of |
|
recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the chartering of the Benjamin Clark |
|
Society of the Children of the American Revolution at Paris High |
|
School and extend to its officers and sponsors sincere best wishes |
|
for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
