R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to
  a close when Lillie Mae Wilson Harris of San Antonio died on
  February 3, 2011, at the age of 73; and
         WHEREAS, Born on November 2, 1937, in Montgomery, to George
  and Jimmie Manning, the former Lillie Mae Manning moved with her
  family to Bay City when she was a young child; she attended Hilliard
  High School and graduated from Del Mar College in Corpus Christi as
  a licensed vocational nurse; in 1979 she relocated to the Alamo
  City, where she soon began working at the San Antonio State
  Hospital; she remained at SASH until her retirement; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Harris was a devoted wife, mother, and
  grandmother, and she treasured the time that she spent with her
  husband, Shelton, and their family, which today includes children,
  grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to caring for her family and handling
  all the responsibilities of her job, Mrs. Harris contributed
  immeasurably to the betterment of her community through a host of
  initiatives; she cofounded People Against Corruption to eradicate
  drug dealing and gang activities in local neighborhoods and
  launched the MED-BUG (Motivation, Education, Determination and
  Bringing Up Grades) program for elementary and middle school
  students, an ambitious project that garnered national recognition;
  she also played an important role in the creation of the Dorie
  Miller Recreation Center, a facility with which she was involved
  until her health declined, and she established libraries in housing
  projects, organized events to celebrate veterans, and assisted the
  homeless and those in prison, along with undertaking many other
  significant efforts; and
         WHEREAS, This woman of strong faith was a valued congregant
  of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church and the recipient of numerous
  accolades for her activism, including nomination for a 2004
  Governor's Volunteer Award; and
         WHEREAS, Lillie Harris touched countless lives during her
  time on this earth, and she will forever hold a special place in the
  hearts of those who knew and loved her; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Lillie Mae Wilson
  Harris and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family:
  to her husband, Shelton Harris, Sr.; to her daughters, Shadalia
  Johnson and Monica Boiser; to her sons, Diallo Uhuru and Joseph
  Wilson and his wife, Liz; to her stepchildren, Diane, Barbara, and
  Raymond Harris and Arthur Cherry; to her grandchildren, Danny and
  his wife, Kim, Shaneka, DeShawn, Natasha, Crystal, and Naomi; to
  her great-grandchildren, DeShawn, Precious, Jenna, John, and
  Caleb; to her siblings, Maude Franklin, James Thomas Manning, and
  Freddie Manning; to her "adopted" brother, Jeff Conway; to the
  Roberts family; and to her many other relatives and friends; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Lillie Mae
  Wilson Harris.
