R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The North Lamar High School Symphonic Band, from |
|
Paris, Texas, has been chosen as the 2010-2011 3A State Honor Band |
|
by the Texas Music Educators Association; and |
|
WHEREAS, This impressive group of young musicians was named |
|
the best out of 190 contenders in the 3A category at the Texas |
|
Bandmasters Association 2010 summer convention; on their way to |
|
attaining this much-anticipated goal, a first for their school, the |
|
band earned superior ratings at the UIL concert contest, which led |
|
to their submission of a CD recording that captured first place at |
|
area and, finally, at state level competition; and |
|
WHEREAS, In consequence of winning the prestigious State |
|
Honor Band title, the band was invited to perform at the TMEA State |
|
Convention in San Antonio on February 11, 2011; and |
|
WHEREAS, Led by Randy Jones, director of bands for the North |
|
Lamar Independent School District, and by directors Jason Smith, |
|
Matt Neal, Rhonda Morris, Tom Neugent, Janie Logee, and Gina Ervin, |
|
the symphonic band has enjoyed the enthusiastic support of the |
|
entire Paris community; and |
|
WHEREAS, The talented and hardworking members of the North |
|
Lamar High School Symphonic Band have distinguished themselves as |
|
one of the premier symphonic bands in Texas, and they may take |
|
justifiable pride in their outstanding achievement; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the members and directors of the |
|
North Lamar High School Symphonic Band on being named the 3A State |
|
Honor Band and extend to all those associated with this ensemble |
|
sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the band as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
