R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, For 100 years, families have come together to |
|
celebrate their faith at the O'Donnell First United Methodist |
|
Church; and |
|
WHEREAS, Established in 1911, the O'Donnell First United |
|
Methodist Church was originally led by the Reverend T. A. Knight, |
|
and early meetings were held at the T-Bar Methodist Church; and |
|
WHEREAS, Founding fathers H. E. Baldridge and C. H. Doak |
|
donated land for First United to build its first structure in 1920; |
|
additions have since been made to the facility in an effort to meet |
|
the needs of its congregation, which welcomed the members of T-Bar |
|
Methodist when that church closed in 1943; a fellowship building |
|
was completed in 1950, and a parsonage was also built; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through the years, First United has provided area |
|
residents with myriad opportunities for spiritual growth, |
|
fellowship, and community outreach, and congregants have benefited |
|
from the able leadership of many dedicated pastors; today that |
|
tradition of service continues under the direction of the Reverend |
|
Monty Barnett; and |
|
WHEREAS, The O'Donnell First United Methodist Church has long |
|
served as a source of inspiration and guidance to those who worship |
|
there, and its continued existence is a tribute to the unwavering |
|
commitment of its members, both past and present; now, therefore, |
|
be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor the O'Donnell First United Methodist |
|
Church on its 100th anniversary and extend to the congregation |
|
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
