R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Glenn Ratliff of Monahans commemorated a remarkable
  milestone in his life with the observance of his 100th birthday on
  January 30, 2011; and
         WHEREAS, Glenn Lafayette Ratliff was born to John and Nora
  Ratliff on January 30, 1911, in his grandparents' home in Coppell;
  he grew up in a family of seven children and lived in several
  different Texas towns, including Waco, Fort Worth, Sanger, Denton,
  and Eldorado, as his father completed seminary studies and then
  worked as a Baptist pastor; and
         WHEREAS, After graduating from Eldorado High School in 1929,
  Mr. Ratliff went on to Baylor University, where he played
  basketball and earned a degree in business administration in 1933;
  he married the former Ophelia Wood on June 7, 1938, and they were
  blessed with four sons, Adair, John, Joe, and Dan; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Ratliff entered the insurance business in the
  late 1930s, and he became a partner in the Key and Ratliff Insurance
  Agency of Monahans in 1940; with the exception of the period between
  1942 and 1945, when he was a field agent with the FBI as part of the
  war effort, Mr. Ratliff has remained in Monahans ever since; in the
  years following the war, he continued in the insurance business and
  also operated the Monahans Development Company, and he became a
  founding stockholder in the First National Bank of Monahans;
  through his various business endeavors, he was instrumental in the
  area's residential and commercial growth in the postwar era; and
         WHEREAS, A longtime member of First Baptist Church, he has
  served as a deacon, a teacher, and a member of numerous congregation
  committees; he helped start the Little League program in town and
  served as its president, and he has also been president of the Lions
  Club, the Junior and Senior Chambers of Commerce, and the Monahans
  Country Club, in addition to holding membership in many other civic
  organizations; and
         WHEREAS, In his century of living, this esteemed Texan has
  witnessed monumental changes on the world stage while also helping
  his community to grow and prosper, and he may reflect with pride on
  his many achievements and on the positive influence he has had in
  the lives of his friends, neighbors, and loved ones; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Glenn Ratliff on his 100th birthday
  and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Ratliff as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
