R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Lonnie Balch has been named the 2011 Lubbock Area |
|
|
United Way Agency Volunteer of the Year; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Balch was honored for providing exceptional |
|
|
volunteer support to the YWCA of Lubbock; whenever something has |
|
|
been needed at the Y, be it a new cover for pool pipes or a trailer |
|
|
for a float, Mr. Balch has stepped up to provide it; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Balch has also earned the admiration of many |
|
|
people as the founder of the KatyB Foundation, which he named for |
|
|
his daughter, Katharine Marie Balch, who battled cerebral palsy |
|
|
throughout her life; when Katy was a child, he realized she found |
|
|
great relief while in the water; with the goal of bringing the same |
|
|
positive impact to others, he established the KatyB Foundation, |
|
|
which supports therapeutic aquatics at the YWCA for special needs |
|
|
children, and he works with the Texas Department of State Health |
|
|
Services to organize an annual Back to School pool party for |
|
|
severely disabled children at which he provides the refreshments; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A Lubbock resident for much of his life, the |
|
|
84-year-old Texan is also a member of the Downtown Bible Class and a |
|
|
stalwart supporter of their many good works, as well as those of the |
|
|
Shriners and the Masons; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through his compassion and genuine desire to help |
|
|
others, Lonnie Balch has helped to make life better for countless |
|
|
Texans, and in so doing, he has set an example of civic engagement |
|
|
to which all may aspire; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Lonnie Balch on his selection as |
|
|
the 2011 Lubbock Area United Way Agency Volunteer of the Year and |
|
|
extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and |
|
|
happiness; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mr. Balch as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
