R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, February 16, 2011, marked the 68th wedding
  anniversary of Ray and Euna Rugg of Canton, and this joyous event
  provides a fitting opportunity to reflect on their memorable
  journey together as husband and wife; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Rugg grew up in farming communities in
  northeastern Louisiana; Mr. Rugg first spied his future wife on
  stage at school with her class and told a classmate he was going to
  marry "that girl"; despite waiting a year to speak to her, he did
  indeed marry her in 1943; and
         WHEREAS, Through the years, Mr. and Mrs. Rugg were blessed
  with a treasured family that includes four sons, Charles, Wally,
  Philip, and John, as well as five foster sons; they have been
  further blessed with 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren;
  and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Rugg served in Europe with the U.S. Army,
  clearing mines in Germany, Belgium, and France, and after his
  return home, he worked for a carbon plant, for the post office, and
  as a baseball umpire; Mrs. Rugg drove a school bus for three
  decades; and
         WHEREAS, Active members of the Church of Jesus Christ of
  Latter-day Saints, Mr. and Mrs. Rugg have served as missionaries in
  Virginia, Illinois, Utah, and Arizona; Mrs. Rugg has been a
  four-time president of her church's women's organization, and both
  have coached church softball teams; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Rugg were likewise active in sports for
  many years; Mr. Rugg coached minor league, Little League, and Dixie
  Senior League baseball, leading a number of teams in championship
  seasons; Mrs. Rugg was a Little League coach for six years and an
  umpire for eight years; she played softball herself until the age of
  73, and she and Mr. Rugg continue to participate in league bowling;
  and
         WHEREAS, The 68 years of marriage that Mr. and Mrs. Rugg have
  shared is eloquent affirmation of the meaning of love and
  commitment, and their enduring union is an inspiration to all who
  know them; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Ray and Euna Rugg on their 68th
  wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for
  continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Rugg as an expression of high regard by
  the Texas House of Representatives.
