R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Diana Pena of Rio Grande City retired as vice
  president of finance and administrative services for South Texas
  College on January 31, 2011, concluding a distinguished career with
  that institution that spanned 12 years; and
         WHEREAS, In 1998, Ms. Pena joined South Texas College as a
  vice president; she played an instrumental role in the school's
  success, helping to ensure its fiscal integrity and stability as
  the able steward of an annual budget of more than $130 million; her
  responsibilities included overseeing a wide range of crucial
  services, including maintenance, facilities, security, and human
  resources, as well as nearly every financial and business function;
  and
         WHEREAS, This skilled administrator has been affiliated with
  a number of professional organizations, among them the Texas
  Association of Community College Business Officers, the National
  Association of College and University Business Officers, and the
  American Association for Women in Community Colleges; moreover, she
  was named 2010 Outstanding Chief Business Officer for Region IV by
  the Community College Business Officers Association; and
         WHEREAS, Born and raised in Rio Grande City, Ms. Pena
  graduated from the University of Houston and went on to earn her
  master's degree in counseling and guidance from The University of
  Texas--Pan American; she worked in the Rio Grande City Consolidated
  Independent School District for nearly three decades, beginning her
  career as a teacher in 1970 and rising to become district assistant
  superintendent for business and operations; and
         WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Ms. Pena enjoys the support
  and encouragement of her husband, Guadalupe Pena, and their
  children, Guadalupe Pena, Jr., Dr. Deanna Pena Garcia, and Ernesto
  Pena; and
         WHEREAS, Diana Pena demonstrated high professional standards
  and exceptional dedication to educational excellence throughout
  her tenure at South Texas College, and her contributions will
  continue to benefit the school in the years to come; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Diana Pena on her retirement as
  vice president of finance and administrative services for South
  Texas College and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Pena as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
