R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The GO TEXAN Certified Retirement Community program
  is highlighting the outstanding qualities that Texas towns and
  cities offer discerning retirees; and
         WHEREAS, Retired Americans make significant social and
  economic contributions to the communities in which they reside;
  retirees possess a wealth of knowledge and experience as well as a
  willingness to volunteer, and they also generate a positive
  economic impact that is equal to 3.7 manufacturing jobs; and
         WHEREAS, Marketing the appeal of Texas as a retirement
  destination benefits all Texans, but in order to succeed, such
  efforts need to highlight the ways in which communities support the
  type of healthy and active lifestyles that are important to today's
  retirees; and
         WHEREAS, To achieve that goal, the Texas Department of
  Agriculture has developed the GO TEXAN Certified Retirement
  Community program; the GO TEXAN seal of approval ensures that each
  certified location has demonstrated an ability to meet the living,
  employment, volunteer, health, entertainment, education, and
  safety needs of its citizens; and
         WHEREAS, With participating towns located in all regions of
  the Lone Star State, the GO TEXAN program is helping to convince
  individuals from across the nation to consider calling Texas home;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize April 20, 2011, as "Retire in Texas
  Day" and commend the GO TEXAN Certified Retirement Community
  program and its participants for promoting the unique and diverse
  communities of Texas.
