R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Acclaimed journalist Roland Martin is sharing his
  insights and experience as a guest speaker at the African American
  Legislative Summit, which is being held in Austin on February 28 and
  March 1, 2011; and
         WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mr. Martin is a 1987 graduate of the
  Magnet School of Communications at Jack Yates High School in
  Houston, and in 1991, he received a bachelor's degree in journalism
  from Texas A&M University; in 2008, he earned a master's degree in
  Christian communications from Louisiana Baptist University; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Martin served as editor for several newspapers,
  magazines, and websites, including the Chicago Defender, the
  Houston Defender, the Dallas Weekly, Savoy magazine, and
  BlackAmericaWeb.com, and he is the former owner and publisher of
  the Dallas-Fort Worth Heritage, a Christian monthly; he was also a
  reporter, news director, and talk show host for radio stations in
  Dallas/Fort Worth and Chicago; and
         WHEREAS, A well-respected television commentator for TV One
  and CNN, Mr. Martin is the host of Washington Watch with Roland
  Martin and a regular guest on many other media outlets across the
  nation and around the world; he is also a nationally syndicated
  columnist and the author of three books; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Martin's extraordinary career has been
  recognized with more than 30 awards, including two NAACP Image
  Awards, the President's Award from the National Association of
  Black Journalists, and a regional Edward R. Murrow Award; Ebony
  magazine has cited him as one of the 150 most influential African
  Americans in the nation for three years in a row, and the British
  newspaper the Daily Telegraph named him as one of the top 50
  political pundits; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout the course of a dynamic and varied
  career, Roland Martin has proven himself time and again to be one of
  the most insightful and provocative commentators on the American
  political scene, and it is indeed an honor and a pleasure to welcome
  him back to Texas for the African American Legislative Summit; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to Roland Martin for his many
  achievements and extend to him sincere best wishes for a meaningful
  and memorable visit to Austin; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Martin as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
