R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The 100th birthday of an esteemed Texan is indeed |
|
cause for celebration, and Odessa Prescott of Fort Worth is marking |
|
this notable milestone on March 20, 2011; and |
|
WHEREAS, The daughter of Barzell and Lydia Willis, the former |
|
Odessa Willis was born in Bremond on March 20, 1911; she was joined |
|
in matrimony to Joe Prescott in 1928, and the couple were blessed |
|
with 11 children, Willie Faye, Roberta, Helen, Vernon, Charles, |
|
John Edward, Gene, Annie Pearl, Dorothy Jean, Mildred Louise, and |
|
Joe Willie; through the years, Mrs. Prescott has also welcomed into |
|
her family 26 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and 34 |
|
great-great-grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, This industrious Texan worked as a cook at Fairway |
|
Steak House, and after her retirement from the restaurant, she |
|
engaged in domestic work before finally retiring again in her late |
|
90s; a woman of great faith, she is a Mother of the Church at Lake |
|
Como Church of God in Christ and has served as a Sunday school |
|
teacher; she was a regular speaker on "Heavenly Gospel" radio |
|
station KSBN 97.0 for three years, and she attends church |
|
conventions as well as services; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Prescott has benefited others through her |
|
membership in the Como Community Neighborhood Association and |
|
Community Senior Citizen Group; she enjoys traveling, spending time |
|
with her family, and participating in reunions, and among her |
|
favorite memories is her appearance on the television program The |
|
Price is Right in 2003, when she won a car; and |
|
WHEREAS, Blessed with the affection of a host of loved ones |
|
and sustained by her strong faith, Odessa Prescott has gracefully |
|
reached the century mark, and she is a source of inspiration to all |
|
who are privileged to know her; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Odessa Prescott on the occasion of |
|
her 100th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for |
|
continued happiness; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mrs. Prescott as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
