R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Lieutenant Governor David H. Dewhurst has been named
  the 2011 Border Texan of the Year by the Hidalgo Chamber of
  Commerce; and
         WHEREAS, Initiated by the chamber in 1989, the Border Texan
  of the Year award pays tribute to an individual who has contributed
  significantly to the betterment of the Rio Grande Valley and South
  Texas; and
         WHEREAS, One of the most respected political leaders in our
  state, David Dewhurst has distinguished himself in his role as
  president of the Texas Senate; and
         WHEREAS, His tenure as lieutenant governor has been marked by
  countless accomplishments, and throughout his career, his many
  strengths as a businessman and innovative community leader have had
  a positive and powerful effect on the legislation he has
  championed; and
         WHEREAS, A statesman and a highly effective public servant,
  David Dewhurst helped to balance four state budgets and to pass the
  largest tax cut in state history, and he is noted for his efforts to
  improve the lives of the people of South Texas and his endeavors to
  enhance employment opportunities across the state; and
         WHEREAS, Known for his many talents and his goal-oriented
  approach to public service, he has worked diligently to create new
  jobs, and as a result of his initiatives, the Texas economy has
  fared better than that of most of the nation; and
         WHEREAS, Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst is an exemplary
  political leader, and due to his vision, hard work, and high
  standards, he has earned the admiration and trust of citizens
  throughout the state; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Lieutenant Governor David H. Dewhurst
  for his outstanding contributions to the Lone Star State and
  congratulate him on earning the title of 2011 Border Texan of the
  Year; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Lieutenant Governor Dewhurst as an expression of
  highest regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
