R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The courageous Americans who fought for this country
  during the critical years of World War II are deserving of the
  highest respect, and Jack Walker was among those who endured the
  grim dangers of war to help preserve his nation's freedom and
  prosperity; and
         WHEREAS, Born on July 1, 1913, Mr. Walker grew up in Longview
  and enlisted in the United States Army in 1942, becoming a sergeant
  in the Military Police Corps; his unit saw action in France during
  the Normandy campaign in the summer of 1944, and while carrying out
  his duties there, he suffered serious injury in an explosion; and
         WHEREAS, Sergeant Walker received several citations and
  decorations for his service in uniform, including the
  European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the
  Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, and
  the World War II Victory Medal; and
         WHEREAS, After the war, Mr. Walker attended cooking school in
  Dallas; he became a kitchen manager at Southern Methodist
  University and worked for the school for 51 years before retiring;
  this beloved husband and father passed away on June 4, 2004, and his
  loss was felt deeply by his family and friends; and
         WHEREAS, One of the exceptional Americans whose courage and
  determination helped their nation to emerge triumphant from the
  dark days of a world war, Jack Walker went on to enjoy a rewarding
  and purposeful life; his many admirable achievements are a source
  of inspiration for all who had the pleasure of knowing this
  remarkable man; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby posthumously honor Sergeant Jack Walker for his
  valiant service in the United States Army during World War II; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Sergeant Walker's family as an expression of high
  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
