R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Members of the Dallas chapter of the Conference of |
|
Minority Transportation Officials are visiting the State Capitol on |
|
February 2, 2011, in conjunction with Minority Business Enterprise |
|
Public Policy Day; and |
|
WHEREAS, Founded in 1971 on the campus of Howard University |
|
in Washington, D.C., the Conference of Minority Transportation |
|
Officials was created to ensure that minorities in the rapidly |
|
expanding transportation industry were allowed equal access to |
|
employment, promotion, and business development opportunities; |
|
today, COMTO has 39 chapters throughout the United States, and the |
|
organization provides leadership programs, advocacy services, and |
|
comprehensive training and education to its members; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Dallas chapter of COMTO works to inform minority |
|
transportation professionals of contract opportunities with major |
|
agencies such as DFW International Airport, the North Texas Tollway |
|
Authority, Dallas Love Field Airport, and the U.S. Department of |
|
Transportation; led by its president, Renee Edwards, the chapter |
|
also hosts a number of worthwhile initiatives, including an annual |
|
golf tournament to raise scholarship funds for promising students; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Through its noteworthy efforts, the Dallas chapter |
|
of COMTO is facilitating economic inclusion of historically |
|
disenfranchised members of the community, and in so doing, it is |
|
helping to increase prosperity in the Metroplex and across the Lone |
|
Star State; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby welcome the Dallas chapter of the Conference of |
|
Minority Transportation Officials to the State Capitol on Minority |
|
Business Enterprise Public Policy Day and extend to all those |
|
associated with the chapter sincere best wishes for an informative |
|
and productive stay in Austin; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the chapter as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
