R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Proud citizens of Sunnyvale are gathering in Austin
  to celebrate Sunnyvale Day at the State Capitol on March 23, 2011;
  and
         WHEREAS, Located approximately 15 miles east of downtown
  Dallas, Sunnyvale balances the convenience of suburban living with
  the relaxed pace of the country; and
         WHEREAS, The town dates back to the mid-19th century, when
  homesteaders settled the Long Creek hamlet; nearby New Hope later
  became a center of rural commerce when a store was built there in
  1885; these two communities, along with Hattersville and Tripp,
  merged in 1953 to form Sunnyvale; and
         WHEREAS, Sunnyvale is bordered to the east by the 22,745-acre
  Lake Ray Hubbard, which offers fishing, waterskiing, sailboating,
  picnicking, and swimming and is enjoyed year-round by visitors and
  residents alike; and
         WHEREAS, To accommodate its rising population that now
  numbers more than 5,000, Sunnyvale opened a new 110,000-square-foot
  high school in August 2009, thanks to the generosity of voters who
  approved a $25 million bond package, and the Sunnyvale Independent
  School District is commemorating its first graduating class in
  2011; and
         WHEREAS, This charming town is an outstanding place in which
  to live, work, and raise a family, and its citizens may indeed take
  great pride in their heritage and ongoing achievements; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize March 23, 2011, as Sunnyvale Day at
  the State Capitol and extend best wishes to the members of the
  visiting delegation for an enjoyable and memorable stay in Austin.
