R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, March 2, 2011, marks the 107th anniversary of the
  birth of Dr. Seuss, and the students of Sunrise McMillian
  Elementary School in Fort Worth are commemorating this occasion in
  conjunction with Read Across America Day on March 11; and
         WHEREAS, Sponsored by the National Education Association,
  this annual celebration is designed to encourage children to read,
  and it highlights the importance of adult involvement in promoting
  this critical skill; by using the works of Dr. Seuss as a focal
  point, the event underscores the joy of reading for children as they
  develop greater ability in an area that will prove vital to their
  success; and
         WHEREAS, Read Across America Day features the participation
  of millions of children, parents, teachers, and community leaders
  from across the land, and is supported by numerous national
  organizations and associations; and
         WHEREAS, Many students of Sunrise McMillian are taking part
  in this celebration of the written word, which is not only a fitting
  tribute to the beloved Dr. Seuss but also an excellent opportunity
  to instill a passion for reading in these future leaders of the Lone
  Star State; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the Read Across America celebration
  of Dr. Seuss's 107th birthday at Sunrise McMillian Elementary
  School and extend to all those in attendance sincere best wishes for
  a memorable event; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
