R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Honorable Gary A. Slagel is completing his
  tenure as mayor of Richardson in 2011, drawing to a close a
  distinguished record of service that has greatly benefited his
  fellow citizens; and
         WHEREAS, Mayor Slagel has been an elected official in
  Richardson for more than two decades; he served as mayor from 1991
  until 2007 and has served again since 2009, and he has further
  contributed his expertise as the council member for Place 4, as
  mayor pro tem, and as a member of the Zoning Board of Adjustment and
  Appeals; and
         WHEREAS, During his years in local government, Mayor Slagel
  has played a vital role in ensuring the prosperity of the city
  through his leadership in economic development and corporate
  retention, and he has also led the way in a number of important
  infrastructure, commercial development, and transit initiatives;
  and
         WHEREAS, This dedicated public servant was a member of the
  executive board of the North Central Texas Council of Governments
  from 1991 to 1996 and its president from 1994 to 1995; he was also a
  member of the Metroplex Mayors Association from 1991 to 2007,
  serving as the association's president in 2005; from 1991 to 2006,
  he was part of the executive committee of the Dallas Regional
  Mobility Coalition and chaired its legislative committee; and
         WHEREAS, Mayor Slagel's experience as a successful
  businessman informs his work in public office; today president and
  CEO of a software firm, CapitalSoft, he has a bachelor's degree in
  industrial technology from Illinois State University and a master's
  degree in business administration from Amberton University; and
         WHEREAS, Mayor Slagel's myriad achievements have been
  recognized with a number of well-deserved honors, including the
  William J. Pitstick Regional Excellence Award from the North
  Central Texas Council of Governments in 2003, the Tech Titans Award
  from the Metroplex Technology Business Council in 2002, and the
  Public Official Business Partner of the Year accolade from Inside
  Collin County Business in 2007; throughout his career, he has
  enjoyed the love and support of his wife, Pat, and the couple have
  four children and four grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Gary Slagel has made Richardson an even better place
  in which to live and work over the course of his years in office, and
  he may indeed reflect with pride on all that he has accomplished for
  the city; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Gary A. Slagel for his notable
  leadership as mayor of the city of Richardson and extend to him
  sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mayor Slagel as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
