R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Credit unions play an important role in communities
  across the Lone Star State, and on May 18, 2011, the Texas Bay Area
  Credit Union is celebrating 75 years of service; and
         WHEREAS, Founded as the Houston Sinclair Refinery Employees'
  Federal Credit Union in 1936, the institution had 864 members and
  more than $28,000 in total shares by the end of its first year;
  operating on the refinery premises in its early decades, the credit
  union moved to a new location in Pasadena in the 1970s and
  accumulated assets exceeded $14 million by 1980; TBACU adopted its
  current name in the 1990s, and by the end of the 20th century,
  membership had grown to more than 22,000 individuals served by 50
  employees; and
         WHEREAS, Today, the Texas Bay Area Credit Union serves over
  25,000 members and employs nearly 100 area residents; with a new
  main office in Houston, the TBACU offers three branch locations in
  that city and in Pasadena; the credit union supports higher
  education by awarding scholarships to members and also was a
  sponsor of the 2010 Wings Over Houston Airshow; and
         WHEREAS, The Texas Bay Area Credit Union helps its members to
  achieve financial security for themselves and their families, and
  in so doing, it contributes immeasurably to the economic vitality
  of the communities it serves; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 75th anniversary of the founding
  of the Texas Bay Area Credit Union and extend to its officers,
  staff, and shareholders sincere best wishes for the institution's
  continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the credit union as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
