R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The members of First Shiloh Missionary Baptist |
|
Church in Houston are celebrating the 120th anniversary of their |
|
church's founding in March 2011; and |
|
WHEREAS, First Shiloh Missionary Baptist was organized in |
|
1891 by families who resettled in Houston following a devastating |
|
flood of the Red River in Shreveport, Louisiana; the church |
|
constructed its first building at the turn of the century, and in |
|
1955 members entered a new two-story brick structure that continues |
|
to house services today; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through the years, First Shiloh Missionary Baptist |
|
has benefited from the able guidance of many dedicated leaders, and |
|
that tradition of service continues under the direction of the |
|
current pastor, the Reverend John E. Fields; and |
|
WHEREAS, United by their shared faith and strong traditions, |
|
the men and women of this notable house of worship support a variety |
|
of commendable programs that offer fellowship as well as help to |
|
those in need, including Operation Outreach and the Junior Church; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, First Shiloh Missionary Baptist has long served as a |
|
source of spiritual enrichment to those who worship there, and its |
|
continued existence is a tribute to the unwavering commitment of |
|
its members, both past and present; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate all those associated with First |
|
Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church on its 120th anniversary and |
|
extend to the congregation sincere best wishes for the future; and, |
|
be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
