R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The untimely passing of Mark Lynn Cude of Pleasanton |
|
on October 25, 2009, at the age of 47, brought a profound loss to his |
|
family and friends; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of Pleasanton, Mark Cude was born on |
|
November 22, 1961, to Bernadine and James Cude; he graduated as the |
|
salutatorian of his class at Pleasanton High School and went on to |
|
earn a degree in petroleum engineering from Texas A&M University in |
|
1985; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Cude served as president of Cude Petroleum for |
|
nearly a decade and opened another business, Riata Finance, in his |
|
hometown in 1990; he later expanded the company to locations in |
|
Floresville, Lytle, and San Antonio; his professional affiliations |
|
included memberships in the San Antonio Retail Merchants Trade |
|
Advisory Council, the Society of Petroleum Engineers, and the Texas |
|
Consumer Finance Association; and |
|
WHEREAS, Active in Republican politics, Mr. Cude held the |
|
positions of chair and treasurer with the Atascosa County |
|
Republican Party; in addition, he was a delegate at several Texas |
|
and Atascosa County Republican Conventions, and in 1996 he ran for |
|
Congress as the Republican candidate for U.S. House District 28; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Cude was also an engaged member of his |
|
community, lending his time and talents to such worthy |
|
organizations as the Atascosa Family Crisis Center and CASA of |
|
South Texas and giving generously to local schools and children's |
|
programs; he served as president and director of the Pleasanton |
|
Chamber of Commerce, as treasurer of the Pleasanton Cowboy |
|
Homecoming Association, and as a member of the Jourdanton |
|
Independent School District Vocational Advisory Board; moreover, |
|
he co-chaired the Atascosa County Sesquicentennial Celebration, |
|
participated in the restoration and rededication of the Atascosa |
|
County Courthouse, and helped organize the Silver Saddle Ball; in |
|
1993, he was honored as the Pleasanton Young Citizen of the Year; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Those Texans who give freely of their time and |
|
talents to benefit the larger community make the world a better |
|
place through their actions and their example, and Mark Cude was |
|
indeed one such person; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Mark Lynn Cude and |
|
extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his mother, |
|
Bernadine Cude; to his daughters, Emily and Chloe Cude; to his |
|
brother, Weldon Cude, and his wife, Gayla; to his nieces, Stephanie |
|
and Lindsey Cude, Aubrey Schulze, and Jennie and Jessica Baker; and |
|
to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Mark Cude. |
