R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories |
|
of Guss Lines of Alpine, who passed away on February 19, 2011, at |
|
the age of 86; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Lines was born in Denison on February 25, 1924, |
|
to George and Sadie Lines; answering his nation's call to duty |
|
during World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS |
|
Pocomoke; and |
|
WHEREAS, After his discharge from the navy, Mr. Lines wed the |
|
former Lope Camarinos in 1946; the couple enjoyed a loving marriage |
|
and were blessed with 3 daughters, Sara, Ginny, and Georgie, as well |
|
as 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, For many years, Mr. and Mrs. Lines owned George's |
|
Drive-in, a popular eatery on Highway 90 in Alpine; after they |
|
closed the drive-in, Mr. Lines worked with Big Bend Regional |
|
Medical Center as a maintenance engineer until his retirement in |
|
1986; and |
|
WHEREAS, A natural storyteller, Mr. Lines had a sharp mind |
|
and a wealth of knowledge about Brewster County, and he would regale |
|
listeners with his colorful tales of the area; in his leisure time, |
|
he enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, and he also spent many |
|
hours engrossed in astronomy and woodworking; he began most of his |
|
days at the City Drug Store, having coffee with friends, and in the |
|
evenings he would settle into his front porch swing to admire the |
|
scenic West Texas sky; and |
|
WHEREAS, Known for his good humor and genial nature, Guss |
|
Lines lived a rich and rewarding life, and he will be deeply missed |
|
by all those fortunate enough to have shared in his love and |
|
friendship; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Guss Lines and |
|
extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his |
|
wife, Lope; to his daughters and sons-in-law, Sara and Jack Bow, |
|
Ginny and Ralph Fuquay, and Georgie and Blane Wilson; to his |
|
grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives |
|
and friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Guss Lines. |
