R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The loved ones of Willie D. Barnett of San Antonio |
|
were deeply saddened by his passing on February 4, 2011, at the age |
|
of 98; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of the Lone Star State, Mr. Barnett was born |
|
in Lockhart on March 24, 1912; he shared nearly four decades with |
|
his first wife, Augurene, before her death and was a devoted father |
|
to his children, Willie, Vernon, Reginald, and Jacqueline; |
|
fortunate to find love a second time, he married Alice Littlejohn |
|
Barnett in 1982, and their marriage spanned close to three decades; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Barnett had a notable career of over 35 years' |
|
duration with the San Antonio Housing Authority; he was also active |
|
in his community and a deacon and a faithful member of Childress |
|
Memorial Church of God in Christ; he played trumpet with the choir |
|
and, even into his late 90s, helped to serve breakfast to the |
|
homeless every week before the morning service and Sunday school; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, In his free time, Mr. Barnett spent many happy hours |
|
playing dominoes, listening to his favorite music, and telling |
|
stories to his family and friends; and |
|
WHEREAS, Willie Barnett lived a full and generous life, and |
|
he will always be remembered with great admiration and affection; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Willie D. Barnett |
|
and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his |
|
wife, Alice Littlejohn Barnett; to his sons, Willie M. Barnett and |
|
Vernon O. Barnett; to his daughter, Jacqueline Barnett-Kirk, and |
|
her husband, Wallace; to his grandchildren and |
|
great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and friends; and, |
|
be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Willie D. |
|
Barnett. |
