R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to |
|
a close when Leo Raymond Vrana of Corpus Christi passed away on |
|
February 20, 2011, at the age of 89; and |
|
WHEREAS, Leo Vrana was born in Moravia, Texas, on March 21, |
|
1921, the fourth of six children of Ignac and Millie Vrana; he |
|
graduated from Robstown High School in 1938 and went on to join the |
|
U.S. Navy; and |
|
WHEREAS, This distinguished veteran survived the attack on |
|
Pearl Harbor and earned a number of honors for his courageous |
|
service, including the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon with |
|
six bronze battle stars, American Defense Service Medal, American |
|
Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, WWII Navy Occupation Service |
|
Medal, and Philippine Liberation Medal with two bronze stars; he |
|
was also awarded the Good Conduct medal and the Presidential Unit |
|
Citation for the Leyte Gulf surface engagement; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Vrana returned to civilian life in 1946 and |
|
became a valued part of his father's construction business in |
|
Robstown; active in his community and faith, he participated in the |
|
Boy Scouts of America, Knights of Columbus, Society of St. Vincent |
|
de Paul, Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, Pearl |
|
Harbor Survivors Association, and Veterans of Foreign Wars; and |
|
WHEREAS, Above all else, Mr. Vrana enjoyed spending time with |
|
his loved ones; he shared 63 years of marriage with his wife, |
|
Henrietta, and together they raised four children, Suzanne, Mary, |
|
Steve, and Greg; and |
|
WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, his country, and his |
|
community, Leo Vrana made a positive difference in many lives, and |
|
he will be fondly remembered for years to come; now, therefore, be |
|
it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Leo Raymond Vrana |
|
and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his |
|
wife, Henrietta Prochaska Vrana; to his children, Suzanne Vrana, |
|
Mary Shafer and her husband, Mark, Steve Vrana, and Greg Vrana; to |
|
his grandchildren, Valerie Collins and her husband, Chris, and |
|
Megan Shafer; to his great-grandchildren, Eric Shafer and Olivia |
|
Collins; to his sister, Georgia Blumberg; and to his other |
|
relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Leo Raymond |
|
Vrana. |
