R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Fort |
|
Worth businessman and civic leader David M. Beckerman, who passed |
|
away on February 20, 2011, at the age of 83; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born to Oscar and Emma Beckerman in New York City, |
|
Mr. Beckerman forged a long and highly successful career in |
|
marketing and electronics; he worked with the Tandy/RadioShack |
|
corporation for more than 41 years and served in a number of |
|
important leadership roles, including those of senior vice |
|
president of marketing services and vice president of operations; |
|
he was known as "Mr. Direct Mail" for leading the company's |
|
successful direct mail advertising campaign, and he shared his |
|
knowledge and expertise as a special volunteer advisor to the U.S. |
|
postmaster general; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Beckerman helped promote cultural understanding |
|
and tolerance as a member of the board of the National Council of |
|
Christians and Jews and as a trustee and member of the executive |
|
committee of the NCCJ Fort Worth chapter, now known as the |
|
Multicultural Alliance; his outstanding civic contributions also |
|
included service on the executive committees of the Fort Worth |
|
Dallas Ballet and Casa Manana Theatre, and he was the founding |
|
president of the Texas Assembly of Arts Councils; and |
|
WHEREAS, Devoted to his faith, Mr. Beckerman was a director |
|
of Congregation Ahavath Sholom and the L. F. Shanblum Lodge of |
|
B'nai B'rith; moreover, he gave generously of his time and talents |
|
to the Jewish Federation of Fort Worth and Tarrant County, serving |
|
as president, campaign chair, and director; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Beckerman and his wife, Greta, enjoyed a deeply |
|
rewarding marriage of more than 60 years; they were wed on June 3, |
|
1950, and were blessed with three children, Iris, Heidi, and Neil, |
|
as well as five grandchildren; the couple received the B'nai B'rith |
|
International Distinguished Achievement Award for their myriad |
|
philanthropic endeavors, and Mr. Beckerman also received a 2001 |
|
Citation Award from the National Conference for Community and |
|
Justice; and |
|
WHEREAS, David Beckerman lived a full and generous life, and |
|
he will forever be remembered with admiration and affection by all |
|
who held him close to their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of David M. Beckerman |
|
and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his |
|
wife, Greta Beckerman; to his daughters, Iris Newman and her |
|
husband, Sidney, and Heidi Kirby and her husband, Michael; to his |
|
son, Neil Beckerman, and his wife, Lisa; to his grandchildren, |
|
Michelle and Drew Beckerman, Matthew and Daniel Kirby, and Jill |
|
Newman; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of David |
|
Beckerman. |
