R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Members of Northwood Republican Women have played an
  active and vital role in their community for nearly 40 years; and
         WHEREAS, Founded in 1972, NRW now boasts 175 members who
  participate in all aspects of the political scene, working to
  support and elect Republican candidates and to promote the ideals
  and principles of the Republican Party; and
         WHEREAS, The NRW's community outreach includes helping
  children aging out of the foster care system by supporting the
  Transition Resource Action Center; the group also donates books to
  elementary school libraries and annually awards a scholarship to a
  Texas college to a young woman in the Dallas area; and
         WHEREAS, In addition, the group contributes to the Intrepid
  Fallen Heroes Fund, which supports the Center for the Intrepid
  rehabilitation center in San Antonio; members of NRW clip food
  coupons for the families of overseas servicemen and women, knit
  warm helmet liners for soldiers in Iraq, and regularly greet
  members of the armed forces who are arriving home or departing
  through Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport; and
         WHEREAS, Affiliated with the National Federation of
  Republican Women and the Texas Federation of Republican Women, NRW
  has been recognized with the Diamond Level Achievement Award from
  the NFRW and the John Goodwin Tower Award of Excellence from the
  TFRW; the group has earned two Star Awards for increasing its
  membership, and its "Greet the Troops" project won first place in
  the NFRW's 2005 Caring for America Award competition; and
         WHEREAS, Under the leadership of current president Laurie
  Schacherer and past president Carolee Blumin, members of Northwood
  Republican Women are making a lasting difference through their
  grassroots political activism, and they may take justifiable pride
  in their rich history of civic engagement; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Northwood Republican Women for the group's
  many accomplishments and extend to the members sincere best wishes
  for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for NRW as an expression of high regard by the Texas House
  of Representatives.
