R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Dr. H. Randolph Bailey has been named the
  Distinguished Houston Surgeon for 2011 by the Houston Surgical
  Society for his exemplary professional achievements; and
         WHEREAS, A summa cum laude graduate of Rice University, Dr.
  Bailey earned his medical degree from The University of Texas
  Southwestern Medical School in Dallas; he served his internship at
  Parkland Hospital, his residency at The University of Texas Medical
  School, and his fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at The
  Ferguson-Droste-Ferguson Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Bailey serves as chief of the division of colon
  and rectal surgery at The Methodist Hospital and The University of
  Texas Medical School at Houston, where he is also program director
  emeritus of the residency training program and colon and rectal
  surgery and a clinical professor of surgery, a role he also holds at
  Weill Cornell Medical College; in addition, he serves as a
  consultant and adjunct professor in the division of surgery at The
  University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center; and
         WHEREAS, A member of the board of regents of the American
  College of Surgeons, Dr. Bailey has earned a number of
  well-deserved honors through the years, including the Rice
  University Distinguished Alumni Award and the Surgical Teaching
  Award from The University of Texas Medical School at Houston; and
         WHEREAS, In selecting Dr. Bailey as the Distinguished Houston
  Surgeon of the year, the Houston Surgical Society is acknowledging
  his dedication to excellence in his field, and it is a pleasure to
  join his colleagues in honoring him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. H. Randolph Bailey on being
  named the Distinguished Houston Surgeon for 2011 by the Houston
  Surgical Society and extend to him sincere best wishes for
  continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dr. Bailey as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
