R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Steave Randolph Powell, Jr., of Forest Hill, who
  left an indelible imprint on the hearts of family and friends alike,
  passed away on June 20, 2010, at the age of 72; and
         WHEREAS, Steave Powell was born in Palmer on August 21, 1937,
  to Steave R. Powell, Sr., and Amanda Powell; after graduating from
  I. M. Terrell High School in Fort Worth in 1955, he attended Prairie
  View A&M University, where he earned his bachelor of science degree
  in biology with a minor in physics; a lifelong learner with an
  interest in technology, he pursued an associate's degree in air
  conditioning and refrigeration from Tarrant County Junior College,
  and he studied at Texas Christian University, The University of
  Texas at Arlington, the University of Southern California, and
  Union College in Schenectady, New York; and
         WHEREAS, After college, Mr. Powell worked as a high school
  teacher and coach for six years; he joined Bell Helicopter Textron
  in 1966, and at the time of his retirement in 2001, he held the post
  of senior engineer specialist with the field investigative lab; an
  authority on aircraft accident investigation, he coedited
  Fractography of Ceramic and Metal Failures, in addition to
  authoring a hundred articles and papers in his field; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Powell met his wife, Alice, while a student at
  Prairie View A&M, and they married in 1959; they enjoyed a rewarding
  union of 51 years and were blessed with a daughter, Alice Renae, as
  well as a granddaughter, Ivana Renae Thompson; and
         WHEREAS, A man of strong religious faith, Mr. Powell attended
  St. Peter Presbyterian Church, where he taught Sunday school and
  served as a ruling elder and usher; active in his community, he was
  a member of the NAACP and YMCA and a former president of the
  Ambassadors Club of Fort Worth; his professional affiliations
  encompassed the Texas Alliance for Minorities in Engineering, which
  he cofounded, the Electron Microscopic Society, and the American
  Society for Testing and Materials, of which he was a past president;
  he was also a Master Mason and a Shriner; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Powell loved spending time with his family, and
  he especially enjoyed playing with his granddaughter, Ivana; his
  wide-ranging pastimes included barbecuing, a skill for which he was
  particularly known, as well as photography, fishing, golfing,
  bowling, traveling, riding motorcycles, and tinkering with
  electronic gadgets; and
         WHEREAS, Steave Randolph Powell, Jr., lived a rich and
  productive life, and he will forever be remembered with deep
  affection by all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Steave R. Powell,
  Jr., and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to
  his wife, Alice Powell; to his daughter, Alice Renae Thompson, and
  her husband, Tyrone; to his granddaughter, Ivana Renae Thompson; to
  his brothers, Marvin Powell and his wife, Anita, James Powell and
  his wife, Debra, and Harold Powell; to his sisters, Bobbye Traylor
  and her husband, Sam, and Theresa Powell; and to his other relatives
  and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Steave R.
  Powell, Jr.
